Common Sense Comes to Town!

Common sense is the most fairly distributed thing in the world, for each one thinks he is so well-endowed with it that even those who are hardest to satisfy in all other matters are not in the habit of desiring more of it than they already have. (Descartes)

The Queen at the Embassy? Shocking

Posted on | September 8, 2011 | No Comments

Our dear Prime Minister Stephen Harper is decidedly a surprising fellow. In his latest move, aiming to restore the British Monarchy as a symbol of Canadien identity, he demanded of Canadian embassies worldwide to exhibit portraits of Queen Elizabeth II. Here are a few ways to obey his orders with a complete lack of respect for his purpose…

Since it is well known that the good minister doesn’t have too much respect for culture, why not have a good laugh at him and use this portrait painted by Lucian Freud, a respective figure in twentieth century British figurative painting?

Or maybe pretend to make a light mistake and put on display this no less famous Queen Elizabeth II?

But most of all, since we all know that Harper desires nothing more than to impose the American political model north of the border, why not use this picture, where the Queen appears with president Barack Obama (go ahead, say it, I’m an evil leftist!)

After all, there is no better way to make a fool out of someone than by following his orders to the letter!
